Anita Harper, Founder and CEO of New Beginning Kidney Foundation
After 7 years of dialysis treatment and receiving a transplanted kidney, Anita Christian- Harper Founded New Beginning Kidney Foundation in 2012.
After being diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease in 2000 and being treated for 4 years Anita was placed on dialysis for stage 5 kidney failure. After being ill one morning, Anita was transported by ambulance to receive medical help at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Anita received excellent care from the great staff of doctors and nurses at Davita-Piedmont Dialysis Center who taught her how to be an advocate for herself, and how to manage kidney disease and restored her back to living a healthy lifestyle. While on dialysis she noticed the challenges and difficulties her chairmates faced, and vowed to make a difference. So N.B.K.F. was birth one year after she received her living donor kidney transplant in 2011. Now she is able to stand as a success story and help encourage those going through this well notated disease.
Note from Anita Harper
Because of all that I have endured while experiencing my journey as a kidney survivor. I vowed to share the importance of being compliant and following the proper protocol, and by being compliant you can thrive while living with kidney disease. By using the tools available, you can manage what works best for you. My life has a new meaning and I have a new beginning to this journey called life!
